The mayor of Stirling-Rawdon calls an consultant’s report projecting population growth and infrastructure needs over the next five to twenty years a “real eye-opener.”
Bob Mullin says a presentation by consulting firm J.L. Richards shows the village could see its population grow by around 1,000 people over the next couple of decades as developers have increasingly seen Stirling-Rawdon as an attractive place to build.
The report also shows a lot of work needs to be done to water and sewer infrastructure to handle the growth and Mullin says the provincial and federal governments are going to have chip in in a big way.
“We’re reviewing development charges and I can foresee that they’re going to go up substantially. The money’s got to come from somewhere
and the tax base really can’t be expected to carry that burden.”
Mullin adds the consultant’s report will spur a lot of discussion on how best to upgrade the village of Stirling’s infrastructure over the next several years.
