Belleville’s financials are in good shape.
Lori Huber of KPMG LLP told council there were no significant issues during an audit of the city’s 2022 financial statements and had praise for the people working in the city’s finance/treasury department.
“Through the course of our audit, the draft financial statements that are included as part of your (council’s) package today were the same financial statements that were provided to us at the start of the audit. So really what that means to you is the quality of the books and records are certainly high and should give you comfort throughout the year in terms of the financial reports that you (council) are receiving.”
City staff said the audit showed positive net financial assets, a sustainable financial position and healthy revenue and surplus growth.
