Quinte Conservation has issued a water safety statement on the Skootamatta Lake and Skootamatta River.
Higher than normal water levels have been recorded in both the lake and the river, caused by a suspected breached beaver dam.
This may have occurred during the rainfall on July 1.
Staff at Quinte Conservation have operated the Skootamata Lake Dam to lower water levels to the typical summer levels.
Water levels downsteam on the Skootamata River are expected to rise in the coming days.
Flooding on the river is not expected.
Additional dam operations will be carried out if necessary, to prevent damage to properties on the lake.
Officials say loose items, docks, and boats should be removed or secured to the shoreline.
Quinte Conservation will continue to monitor and investigate the water levels.
The Quinte Conservation statement also includes the following:
Beaver dam breaches are difficult to predict and can cause rapid changes in water levels and road washouts.
