Nurses at Campbellford Memorial Hospital are resorting to rare measures to make their voices heard.
After nurses repeatedly raised concerns with management over staffing issues that have gone unresolved, the hospital’s nursing staff union has called for an independent assessment committee to investigate the unresolved complaints.
The nurses say they don’t have enough nursing staff to provide safe and quality care for patients.
The Ontario Nurse’s Association announced on Friday that the hearing will be held on June 26, 29 and 30.
Independent assessment committee hearings are a rare step, and the ONA calls it a last resort for when nurses and management aren’t able to resolve workload concerns. The panel is to determine if nurses are being assigned more workload than is recommended for safe patient care.
The complaints come after a shift in the hospital’s nursing structure in early 2023 that resulted in the elimination of four registered nurse positions.
