It looks to be back to the drawing board on fixing the roof at the Madoc District Recreation Centre.
The Municipality of Centre Hastings has carried a decision to not accept a new cost-sharing agreement presented by the Town of Madoc and to work on negotiating on a new cost-sharing agreement.
In September 2021, the roof of the Madoc and District Recreation Centre was assessed by Garland Canada Inc. Several recommendations were made, with the roof identified in the 2023 Centre Hastings Capital Budget.
The Municipality of Centre Hastings and the Township of Madoc applied to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for funding. The application was approved for $150,000.
When a report was brought to Madoc Township on January 18, 2023, it was identified that the total cost of the project was $250,000. This would leave $100,000 to be paid by municipal partners.
Negotiations between the two sides carried throughout the months, culminating in a letter sent to the Municipality of Centre Hastings by Madoc on May 8, stating that it would only be able to provide the $150,000 from the OTF and that no additional funding would be coming from Madoc.
At the council meeting on Wednesday, Centre Hastings said it would not agree to the terms and that they would work on negotiating a new cost-sharing agreement “that is equitable and justifiable for the continued operations of the Madoc District Recreation Centre/Arena.”
