The Belleville Quinte West Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) was in the bottom third of the list when it came to median employment income amongst CMAs in Canada.
According to a study published by the Fraser Institute, median employment income in the Belleville CMA in 2019 was $33,330 a year and was ranked number 31 out of 41 CMAs.
Ranked number one on the list was the Ottawa-Gatineau Census Metropolitan Area which had median employment income of $45,550.
In last place was St. Catharines-Niagara at $31,540. The national average in 2019 was $36,960.
A median income is one at which half of the incomes are below it and half above it.
The Belleville-Quinte West CMA consists of Belleville, Quinte West, Stirling-Rawdon and Tyendinaga Deseronto.
According to the Fraser Institute of the top 10 earning CMAs, five included either a federal or a provincial capital.
