Belleville Cemetery is marking its 150th anniversary in June.
Former member of the Board of Directors, Gary Foster spoke with Quinte News about that history.
Foster pointed out that at one time graves would be moved at the request of the family, to get beside a more prominent person.
“There was a decade there where moving bodies was a common occurrence. So after the lottery went by, and people said enough of that I want to get buried with the right people, they would get dug up and moved to certain areas in the cemetery.”
You can hear the full interview with Mary Thomas on Newsmaker Sunday, this Sunday at the noon hour on 800 CJBQ.
The celebration to mark the history is on Saturday, June 17, at 11 a.m.
