The local Medical Officer of Health says public health officials shoudn’t have continued to “trumpet” the H1N1 “swine flu” as close to a pandemic, thereby “wrecking Mexico’s tourist economy.”
Dr. Richard Schabas told the Board of Health that 20-to-200-thousand people would have died in Mexico if it had been a pandemic, rather than a few dozen. Schabas is concerned the public will be skeptical after the inflated SARS and swine flu predictions. He says the regular fall flu vaccine will not include protection for H1N1, but there may be an additonal shot available…if it’s ready.
