The people who work to lay flooring on the ice surfaces at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre for special events such as home shows will be happy to hear this.
Belleville council has approved the purchase of ArenaDeck ice rink flooring from Athletica Sport Systems at a cost of almost $613,000.
Manager of Recreation Services Mark Wilson told council the city already has two ice rink flooring systems but one is 25 years old, hard to install, and needs replacing in future.
Wilson says the new flooring will be much better.
“There’s a better insulation value to this new type of floor. It’s just a lot faster and easier for us to get the floors in and out.”
ArenaDeck ice covers are used in many NHL arenas.
Meanwhile, council also approved almost $59,000 for the purchase of specialized rubber flooring to be installed in various spots in the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre.
