Thursday is the halfway point of the Tim Hortons Smile Cookie campaign.
To help encourage more smile cookies be sold, an event was put together inviting local public officials to take part in adding the frosting to the cookies at the Tim Hortons location at 470 Dundas St. E in Belleville.
“It’s so important to have one of the new machines because as the population slowly ages, they’re going to need more of that type of medical assistance,” owner Mark Hanley tells media.
“So we’re very honoured and humbled to be able to be part of it.”
He says it’s great to see the community show their support.
“One hundred per cent of the funds go towards (the purchase of a Diagnostic Ultrasound Machine) so it’s the community really supporting themselves,” Hanley said.
“We’re just the conduit here, the in between, and so to see the community support the community is really amazing.”
Hanley says this year’s sales of Smile Cookies are selling well.
“We still have three days to go so we’re really excited about how far we can push that and how successful we can see we can be,” Hanley said.
Government officials in attendance included Belleville Mayor Neil Ellis and Bay of Quinte MPP Todd Smith.
The Smile Cookie campaign continues until May 7.
