Cleanup efforts have begun on a house in the Pine Hill Crescent area north of Belleville, which was destroyed by fire last October, resulting in a tragic loss of life. The state of the property has been a concern for local residents, with the collapsed roof requiring the building to be torn down.
Despite most of the windows being boarded up, numerous openings in the structure have made it easy for animals and rodents to gain access. Brett Forestell, the Chief Building Official for the City of Belleville, explained that the nature of the fire had extended the cleanup process, but the insurance company responsible for the property had planned to begin the work earlier this spring.
The property is expected to be redeveloped, although no specific plans have been announced at this time. In the meantime, efforts are underway to clear the site of debris and make it safe for the surrounding community.
