Improvements are on the way for Millennium Trail.
Chair Patrick Maloney and Gregor Stuart from the Prince Edward County Trails Committee made a deputation to Prince Edward County Council, detailing their plans for the immediate future of Millennium Trail.
Prince Edward County Council has recently fielded concerns about the trail being used for commercial purposes, with larger and larger vehicles being used along its length.
The pair detailed plans for the future of the trail to councillors, and highlighting the contributions of volunteers towards achieving these goals.
A major focus was on improving safety on the trail, primarily with updated signage along the 46-kilometre-long trail, including trail locator signs, crossroad markers and stop signs. Other safety initiatives include reviews of speed limits on the trail for vehicles, and examining what size of vehicles should be permitted.
Other improvement plans include trail maps to be made available at rest kiosks along the trail, benches, and the planting of native plants.
The plans also detailed increased fundraising efforts to support maintenance and improvement of the trail, with tree and bench dedications for donors and T-shirts for sale.
Council received the deputation, but took no action at this time.
