Quinte West OPP remind us to be vigilant and take steps to deter vehicle thefts after seizing a stolen vehicle during a traffic stop early Sunday.
Shortly after 2:30 a.m., officers stopped a vehicle travelling east on Highway 401 near the Highway 37 exit.
During the investigation, the lone occupant was arrested for being in possession of a stolen vehicle.
Michael Rousseau, age 22, from Quebec, was charged with possession of property obtained by crime, and drug possession.
He was held in custody for a court appearance Monday.
OPP say thieves are constantly developing new methods to facilitate vehicle thefts.
Some recommendations to prevent vehicle thefts include:
- Park vehicles in a locked garage as most vehicles are stolen from a driveway
- Use a steering wheel lock, which will also work as a visual deterrent
- Install a lock on your car’s data port (a simple device that can be purchased online and blocks access to the vehicle’s computer port)
