Prince Edward County has announced that former Fire Chief George Pettingill passed away on Tuesday.
Pettingill became the first fire chief of the amalgamated Prince Edward County in 1999.
His career began on January 1, 1978 with the Hallowell/Bloomfield Township Fire Department.
He also served as fire chief for the township.
Flags on municipal properties are lowered at half mast in memory of Pettingill.
Details on funeral arrangements will be shared when they become available.
