The Trenton Golden Hawks are the last local hockey team standing and they will once again assume the underdog’s role when they play the Collingwood Blues in the OJHL championships for the Frank L. Buckland Cup.
It’s a role Trenton relishes as their previous wins against the Toronto Junior Canadiens and Wellington Dukes were against teams that finished higher in the standings.
Game 1 will be in Collingwood Thursday night at 7 p.m. with Game 2 in Trenton Saturday April 22 at 7:30.
Collingwood won the NorthWest Conference regular season championship with 89 points (44-9-0-1) while Trenton was fourth in the SouthEast with 75 points (36-15-0-3).
A major reason for Trenton’s post season success has been their play on the road. The G-Hawks are 7-2 away from the Dunc McDonald Community Gardens.
The Blues won their only meeting with Trenton during the regular season, 4-3 in overtime on November 6.
The winner of the series will advance to the Centennial Cup National Junior A championship in Portage la Prairie Manitoba on May 13.
