Two Prince Edward County Junior hockey teams are on the ropes after losses Wednesday night.
For the first time in the OJHL South-East Conference final, the home team was a winner and that has moved the Trenton Golden Hawks within one game of the championship round.
Adam O’Mara broke a two-all tie with 26 seconds left in regulation as the G-Hawks scored two unanswered goals in the third to rally for a 3-2 win over the Wellington Dukes and a commanding 3-1 lead in the series.
It was O’Mara’s second of the game. Matt Cato tied the game at 10:34 of the third period and assisted on the winner. He says they saved their best for last.
Trenton was two for two on the power play. Dukes coach Derek Smith says that was the difference.
Luke Strickland and Jacob Vreugdenhil replied for the Dukes who face elimination in Game 5 at Lehigh Arena Friday night.
The winner of this series will play the winner from the North-West Division. The Collingwood Blues defeated the Burlington Cougars 2-1 Wednesday night to take a 3-1 lead in that series.
Preds blank the Pirates
The Picton Pirates face elimination Thursday night when they host the Port Hope Predators at the Prince Edward Community Centre.
Sam Dingle stopped 27 shots to backstop the Preds to a 3-0 win to give them a 3-1 lead in their Junior C Tod Division final. Game time is 7:30 in Picton.
