A Belleville councillor continues to challenge the local construction industry to move more quickly in the construction of new residential units.
Councillor Paul Carr told council Tuesday that there have only been nine building permits for new residential units to the end of March this year and that wasn’t enough.
“The reality is we continue to approve, staff do a fabulous job of meeting the targets that are expected by the province but we need the private sector to actually obtain the permits and most importantly, these are just permits issued, they need to actually build.”
Meanwhile, in a related matter, council approved by-law changes that would allow up to three residential units in any house, townhouse or semi-detached home along with another unit elsewhere on the property.
The changes would apply in urban areas only.
