A full house was at Lehigh Arena Wednesday night for Game 1 of the OJHL South-East Conference final. And the fans were treated to a nail biter.
Trenton tops Wellington 3-1 in the opener of their best of seven series.
Adam Omara broke a 1-1 tie with a power play goal at 8:06 of the third period.
It was Omara’s fifth goal of the post season.
All four goals were scored in the third period including an empty netter from Robbie Rutledge. Duncan Grube also scored for Trenton. Lucas LaPalm replied for Wellington.
Golden Hawks coach and general manager Jerome Dupont says special teams made the difference.
Trenton scored on their only power play chance while going 5 for 5 on the penalty kill.
Dukes assistant coach Tyler Longo says the G-Hawks took advantage of Wellington miscues.
Shots on goal were 32-32.
Game 2 is in Trenton Saturday night at 7:30.
