Trent Hills Recruitment and Retention Committee is hosting a fundraiser in Campbellford next month as the team works to address the area’s doctor shortage.
There are currently 4,000 residents in the Trent Hills area without a family doctor.
Four family physicians are needed to join the Trent Hills Family Health Team and another four are needed at Campbellford Memorial Hospital.
The event is May 11 at 7 p.m. at the Aron Theatre and will feature a concert by the Aubrey Dale Jazz Quartet and a short film detailing Aubrey’s personal life-saving kidney transplant.
All proceeds will go to the Trent Hills Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee to help in their efforts to attract doctors to the Trent Hills area.
The event is being hosted by the Trent Hills Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee in partnership with the Aron Theatre Co-op to raise recruitment and retention awareness and funds for much-needed marketing and advertising materials.
Materials are used at recruitment fairs and are included in tailored information packages and advertising campaigns.
Planning is underway for Campbellford to host a number of medical students during a Rural Medicine Week later this spring.
Michele Haddow, Medical Affairs Coordinator for Campbellford Memorial Hospital and the Trent Hills Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee says recruitment challenges are not just local. “There is currently a national shortage of physicians with some estimates saying nearly four million Canadians are currently without a family doctor or primary care provider. Competition to recruit physicians is high in all areas as there is a limited number of new doctors ready to take on practices each year, which means every community must have a robust local effort to support recruitment.”
Tickets for the fundraiser are $40 each and can be purchased online at www.arontheatre.com or by contacting the Trent Hills Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee office at 705-653-1140 ext. 2007.
