More details about the upcoming Homelessness Summit in Belleville are being revealed.
The city, Hastings County and the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness will be hosting local stakeholders and community partners for the summit at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre on April 13.
The event will start at 9 a.m. in the gymnasium.
There will be presentations from Hastings County and the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness, interviews with individuals with lived experience, and a community panel discussion on what it takes to end homelessness.
From there, the group of participants will work on drafting aims and measures during a roundtable session.
The event is open to the public though they will only be able to attend as spectators.
It will also be livestreamed on the city’s YouTube channel and there will be opportunity for public comment through an online survey at a later date.
“Homelessness is a solvable problem,” said Tim Richter, President & CEO of the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness. “And if there is one thing we’ve learned from cities that have had success, it’s the importance of strong local leadership. That’s why we’re so excited to support Mayor Ellis, Belleville Council and the County of Hastings on this important summit.”
“Hastings County is pleased to support the City of Belleville in its Homelessness Summit,” said Hastings County Warden Bob Mullin. “Hastings County has worked closely with the Canadian Alliance to end Homelessness (CAEH), and addressing homelessness continues to be a top priority. All levels of government must work together to find solutions, and this is a continued step in the right direction. We look forward to the summit and establishing local initiatives with key local partners.”
“We know homelessness is a serious issue in our community,” said Mayor Neil Ellis. “This is an opportunity for the city to come together with our community partners, set clear goals and be able to enact real change. We look forward to this collaboration and creating a path forward for a Belleville where everyone has a place to call home.”
