If the Trenton Golden Hawks are the underdog in their OJHL Conference semi final against the Toronto Junior Canadiens, somebody forgot to tell them.
Jordan Fuller scored the game winning goal early in the third period and Ben Bonisteel turned aside 38 shots as Trenton got past the Canadiens 4-3 to take Game 1 of the series.
Toronto finished 19 points ahead of Trenton in the South-East Conference during the regular season.
Fuller, who has 3 post season goals, says physicality was the key.
Golden Hawks coach Jerome Dupont says his team was full value for the win.
David Fournier, Matt Cato and Zev Podolski also scored for the G-Hawks. Game 2 is in Trenton Friday night at 7:30.
The Wellington Dukes will open their series with Haliburton at home Friday night at 7:30 as well.
Panthers and Jets win in Junior “C” playoffs
In the Provincial Junior “C” playoffs the Port Hope Panthers are half way to a major upset.
Christopher Brydges scored a goal and assist as Port Hope doubled the Napanee Raiders 4-2.
That gives the Panthers a 2-0 lead in their best of 7 Tod Division semi final.
Napanee finished 24 points ahead of Port Hope during the regular season.
Game 3 is Friday in Napanee.
Meanwhile, Alex Chu stopped all 24 shots he faced as the Amherstview Jets shutout the Picton Pirates 3-0 in Game 1 of their semi final.
Game 2 is Thursday night at 7:30 in Picton.
