(Jacob Tinney receives Tod Division MVP award from PJHL Eastern Conference Manager Chris Clarke)
The Frankford Huskies went from one win in the 2021-22 season to 15 this year and claimed two major Provincial Junior C awards in the process.
Forward Jacob Tinney was named the Most Valuable Player in the Tod Division after scoring a league-leading 38 goals.
Tinney was acquired from the North Kawartha Knights in an off-season trade.
Director of Operations Frank Robinson says, “Tinney was a most welcome addition in the off season. We knew he could put the puck in the net, but I do not think we knew he could produce at the rate he did. We were looking for experience and he provided that. ‘Showtime’ as his teammates call him, got on a roll and he never stopped.”
The Huskies coaching staff led by Pat Shearer earned Coach of the Year honours.
Shearer’s staff includes Justin Talsma, Scoley Dow and Doug Matthews.
Shearer, who has coached AAA and in the OJHL as well, brought his team from 1-27-2 in the 2021-22 season, to 15-24-3 this year. During that time they scored 107 more goals year over year.
Robinson says, “You look at the playing structure our team had this year, that is all the coaching guidance.”
The Huskies host the Port Hope Panthers in Game 3 of their best of seven series Tuesday night at 6:50. Port Hope leads the series two games to one.
Meanwhile the Picton Pirates will try to wrap up their series in Campbellford Tuesday night at 7:30. Picton leads the Rebeld three games to none.
