Playoffs are in full swing for lots of local hockey leagues.
In the Junior A playoffs, the Trenton Golden Hawks beat the Cobourg cougars 4-2, leading their best of seven series 0-1.
Adam OMarra, Matthew Cato, Mitch Lafay, and Jack Natyshak scored for the Golden Hawks.
The Cougars opened scoring late into the first period but the Golden Hawks managed to slip in a first period goal with just 30 seconds still on the clock to tie the game going into the second. In the second frame, both teams scored quick goals in under five minutes, but the Golden Hawks came back close to the end of the period to take two more and secure a commanding lead going into the final frame, where neither team was able to score, and take victory.
The Wellington Dukes dismantled St Michael’s Buzzers 7-0, winning the second game in a row of their best of seven.
Jacob Vreugdenhill, Matheson Mason, Ryan Strickland, Corbin Roach, Barrett Joynt, David Campbell, and Edward Moskowitz scored for the Dukes.
The Dukes started strong with two unanswered goals in the first period and never let up once they got that ball rolling, claiming two more in the second and three in the third while taking almost double the number of shots on net than St Michael’s.
In the Junior C playoffs, the Port Hope Panthers beat the Frankford Huskies 5-3. The two teams are now tied in their best of seven series 1-1. The Huskies and the Panthers meet for their third game in Frankford at 6:50 on Saturday evening.
In the Eastern Ontario Super League, the Gananoque Islanders demolished the Tweed Oil Kings 7-2 in the first game of their best of five semifinal series. The teams clash again on Friday.
