The Wellington Dukes defeated the visiting St. Mike’s Buzzers 7-4 to open their best of seven OJHL playoff series.
Edward Moskowitz broke a 4-4 tie at 19:14 of the second period. Luke Strickland and Connor Hunt added unanswered goals in the third.
Ryan Smith, Barrett Joynt and Corbin Roach rounded out the scoring for the Dukes.
Game 2 in the series is Friday night in Toronto.
The Trenton Golden Hawks open their series with Cobourg Friday night at the Community Gardens.
Goaltending steals victory in Port Hope
It might be a cliche but the Frankford Huskies have proven it true.
The playoffs are indeed a new season. Particularly if your goaltender is hot.
Karsten Leondard scored twice and Hayden Candler stopped 45 shots as the Huskies shocked the Panthers 4-0 in Port Hope in Game one of their best of seven Junior C series.
Port Hope outshot Frankford 45-37 but could not solve Candler.
Ben Smith and Jacob Tinney also scored for the Huskies.
Port Hope finished 14 points ahead of the Huskies in the East Tod Division.
Game 2 is in Port Hope Friday night.
The Picton Pirates are home to the Campbellford Rebels to open their Provincial Junior C playoff series tonight (Thursday) at 7:30 at the Prince Edward Community Centre.
