Quinte West Fire Chief John Whalen is crediting alert staff and a fire safety plan for limiting damage at a Trenton fire on Monday morning.
Around 9:45 a.m., fire crews responded to Mystical Distributing, at 6 Foster Sterns Road, which is adjacent to the 401 along the Trent River.
Chief Whalen explains the scene:
“There was a contractor welding in there, fire ignited, he caught on fire – actually, his clothes. He was taken to TMH (Trenton Memorial Hospital). It could have been a lot worse and good thing for sprinkler systems and the employees knew what to do with their Fire Safety Plan. They had fire extinguishers right there.”
Whalen says none of the fireworks caught fire.
No estimate of damage has been made available.
The Ministry of Labour has been called in.
