Prince Edward County Council will review the proposed 2023 Operating Budget next week, which features an almost $4 million increase over last year.
The tax-supported operating budget is proposed at $70.8 million, up from 2022’s $67 million.
The proposed rate-supported operating budget for water and wastewater services is $11.5 million.
As far as any tax increase, the current Proposed Budget Levy impact to residents would be a $51.85 increase per $100,000 in home value.
County staff noted the tax base grew by nearly 2% in 2022
Last year’s budget resulted in a tax increase of approximately $33.07 on an average assessment of $100,000.
The proposed 2023 operating budget aims to maintain consistent levels of service while dealing with a complex set of challenges such as supply chain issues, higher budget requests from external agencies, cost of living increases, and limited funding from upper levels of government for infrastructure.
Earlier this month, County Council adopted the tax-supported capital budget of $85.1 million while approving a water and wastewater capital budget of $25.1 million.
Budget deliberations will be held at Highline Hall in Wellington from February 22-24.
