The mayor of Quinte West isn’t happy with the decision to appoint former councillor and unsuccessful mayoral candidate Karen Sharpe to council to replace the late Sidney Ward councillor Terry Cassidy.
Jim Harrison supported former councillor Al Dewitt for the seat but the motion to appoint him was lost on a tie vote.
The mayor says councillors’ comments that appointing Sharpe to council would be something Cassidy would like are irrelevant.
“Terry Cassidy didn’t own the seat. I don’t own the seat I have, I’m elected by the residents and so was Al Dewitt. He was one that was elected by residents as next in line.”
The matter was settled by an 8 to 4 vote in favour of appointing Sharpe.
