Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the Quinte region with strong winds and heavy rainfall forecast for Thursday.
Special weather statement in effect for:
- Belleville – Quinte West – Eastern Northumberland County
- Cobourg – Colborne – Western Northumberland County
Strong winds and heavy rainfall possible Thursday.
Hazards:
Rain, at times heavy. Total rainfall amounts of 15 to 25 mm.
Southwesterly winds gusting 70 to 90 km/h. The strongest winds are expected for areas downwind of Lake Erie.
Timing:
Early Thursday morning to Thursday evening.
Discussion:
Rain will begin over extreme southwestern Ontario early Thursday morning and advance northeastward through the day. A brief period of freezing rain is possible Thursday morning for areas inland from the Great Lakes. Rain will taper to showers by Thursday evening. Gusty southwesterly winds are expected Thursday afternoon into early Thursday evening.
High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break. Isolated utility outages are possible.
Localized flooding may occur in areas of poor drainage.
