Quinte West council is expected to decide on how to fill the vacant council seat left after the recent death of Sidney Ward councillor Terry Cassidy at its meeting Wednesday afternoon.
Council could hold a by-election or appoint an eligible elector to the seat.
The cost of holding a by-election ranges between $70,000 and $105,000 depending on the methods chosen.
If council chooses to appoint someone it can either choose from last election’s unsuccessful candidates or someone who’s eligible from the general public.
Former councillor Al Dewitt finished just out of the running in fifth place in Sidney Ward in October’s municipal election.
