The City of Belleville’s Glanmore National Historic Site, part of the Community Services Department, is celebrating its 50th anniversary as a museum and 140th year since construction of the heritage building. The museum will commemorate the anniversary with special events, exhibitions and performances for residents and visitors to our region to enjoy throughout 2023.
“Glanmore National Historic Site has been a staple of our community since opening in 1973,” said Mayor Neil Ellis. “Not only is it a reflection of our city’s history, it is a place for gathering, education and celebration. We are so proud to have such a beautiful and unique landmark in our community, along with its unique collections, and look forward to what the next 50 years holds for the museum.”
Celebrations will kick off with an Ontario Heritage Week Open House to take place at Glanmore National Historic Site, 257 Bridge St. East, on Saturday, Feb. 25 from 1 to 4:30 p.m.
Glanmore began its anniversary year with a recent carpet restoration project in the dining room and main bedroom of the historic house. The new, reproduction carpeting in the narrow loom Wilton style, was produced by the Grosvenor Wilton Carpet Company in the United Kingdom. It is believed to be the same company that made the original carpeting 140 years ago.
