Lightning struck twice in Springfield as the Thunderbirds defeated the Belleville Senators 6 to 1, ending the Senators’ road trip with back to back losses.
Matthew Boucher scored for the Senators.
Neither team gave any ground during the scoreless first period, but the Thunderbirds struck like lightning in the second, taking the first goal of the game after less than half a minute of play. The Senators evened the score shortly after but that would be the only goal they got as the Thunderbirds went on a rampage. After claiming two more goals the Thunderbirds took a 3 to 1 lead into the final frame, where they took 3 more unanswered goals to end the game.
Belleville Senators Head Coach Troy Mann said they had a rough game.
“In terms of the amount of penalties we took and the PK not being able to execute, it makes for a long night,” said Mann.
The Senators play again on Thursday against the Rochester Americans.
