Today marks the opening of the 2023 Rural Ontario Municipal Association Conference.
Mayors and other officials from rural communities around Ontario are attending the conference at the Sheraton Centre Hotel in Toronto, along with provincial representatives.
Mayor Neil Ellis of Belleville is attending, along with city councillors Chris Malette, Sean Kelly and Lisa Anne Chatten. Mayor Ellis says their priorities are to meet with the Minister of Transportation in regards to widening Highway 401, and to meet with the Minister of Health about doctor recruitment.
Premier Doug Ford, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health Sylvia Jones, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Lisa Thompson, and Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Steve Clark are attending and will deliver public remarks on the first day of the conference.
The conference begins with remarks from Premier Ford at 9:00.
