A former Belleville Councillor has passed away.
Georgina Thompson died at 76 on New Year’s Eve, surrounded by her family.
Thompson served part of a term on Belleville Council between 2003 and 2006, and was also a provincial Liberal candidate for the 2014 Ontario election.
She was a frontline nurse, and served as a Chair for the South East Local Health Integration Network.
Thompson’s accomplishments include being the first woman inducted into Rotary for the Quinte region. She also won a 1998 Premier’s Award, and was the first ever Belleville Business Woman of the Year.
The family will have a celebration of life later this year.
