A unique partnership is bringing more housing to the City of Belleville, using a long vacant building.
Real estate developer Summers & Co and three Indigenous communities – Mohawks of Bay of Quinte, Garden River First Nation and Missanabie Cree First Nation – will work together to convert the former federal building at 1 North Front Street into rental units.
The building will be revitalized to accommodate 38 apartments including a number of affordable rental units for Indigenous and local Belleville residents.
Indigenous design themes will be incorporated and solar solutions will be used making it a green project.
One of Summers and Co’s missions is to redevelop properties to breathe life into dormant neighbourhoods.
A formal launch is being held January 10.
