The owners of the almost two hectare former Ben Bleecker building property in west end Belleville hope to make a major housing development easier to get done.
Spencer Hutchison of RFA Planning asked the city’s Planning Advisory Committee for a severance to split the property into two sections and some minor zoning changes.
One section would hold a 10-storey, 107-unit apartment building and the other 25 townhouses.
Hutchison explained the severance would allow two developers to be involved in construction at the same time bringing the project to completion more quickly.
The property owners, who now own Arabella Retirement Residence in Belleville, are interested in building the apartment building but may wish to sell the townhouse section to another developer.
The housing would be on the north end of the property while a commercial plaza is planned for the southern section.
The Planning Advisory Committee made no decision on the request. Staff will come back with a recommendation report at a later date.
