It was a heartwarming end to the latest Car4Cancer Super Draw for the Belleville General Hospital Foundation.
The winner of the 2022 Cadillac CT4 Luxury was drawn Tuesday morning at Peter Smith GM by Belleville Mayor Neil Ellis.
It turns out Gerald Langlois of Brighton is a cancer survivor himself.
BGHF Executive Director Steve Cook says 6,120 tickets were sold, raising $124,000 for oncology support across the region.
The Super Draws came to life when the foundation had to find new ways to fundraise during the pandemic.
“This is part of a multi-year strategic vision where, you know, we need to create greater sustainability for, you know, oncology services and the funding of those services.”
Peter Smith GM Dealer Cole Allinger says they are proud to continue the tradition of community giving that Peter Smith started.
“Steve approached us last year and Vicki Smith and I partnered and gave away the car draw last year. I think it raised like, around $125,000 and when he kinda came this year again to ask to do the same thing, I said, absolutely. There’s kind of no better way for our money to be spent and to increase the impact we could have on the community.”
The three Super Draws held so far have raised about $375,000 for BGHF.
Cook says they are already in the process of planning three draws for 2023.
Two early bird prizes were also drawn.
Frances Lekes of Belleville was the winner of $1,000 while Charlotte Anne Burgess of Belleville won $250.
