A park to be created in a new subdivision in the west end of Trenton will be named after the son of a prominent local homebuilder.
Monday Quinte West council unanimously approved that parkland in the new Appledene Park Estates development be named “Matthew Staikos Memorial Park.”
Matthew, the son of developer Nick Staikos, was shot dead while walking in Toronto’s Yorkville district in May of 2018.
He was born and raised in Trenton and became a successful entrepreneur and led the creation of the Blackberry web browzer. He was 37 when he was killed and the case is still under investigation.
The Staikos family is offering $80,000 to the city toward the creation of the park.
