The following update was provided by Hydro One on ongoing power outages in central and eastern Ontario.
Today, damage is largely being caused by heavy wet snow bringing tree branches down on power lines.
While we have moved crews from other regions to assist with restoration in the hardest hit areas, challenging driving conditions and inaccessible roads are delaying restoration times in some areas.
We understand how difficult it is to be without power and we thank our customers for their patience as crews work to restore power as quickly and as safely as possible. Since this winter storm began yesterday morning, crews have restored power to approximately 100,000 customers.
We encourage customers to report their outage by texting 92887 (WATTS), through our outage map and app, or by calling 1-800-434-1235. Our outage tools are updated every 10 minutes as information comes in from crews on the ground. An estimated time of restoration will be determined for each outage once damage has been assessed.
It’s also important to stay clear of any fallen power lines. If you spot a fallen line, keep at least 10 metres back, even if it does not appear to be live. Report it to 911 and call Hydro One at 1-800-434-1235.
