We are comfortably into 2023 and Quinte News continues to tee up the new year.
Our attention is now turned to the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte (MBQ).
Chief R. Don Maracle says his main focus for the new year will be housing. He says that Hastings County issued a State of Emergency due to the housing shortage in the entire county, and Tyendinaga is no exception.
Affordable housing falls under that as well he says.
Currently there are 125 applications from MBQ families for the affordable housing wait list.
Maracle says a long term care home is also a priority. He tells us an LTC property has been approved for just east of Highway 49 on Old Highway 2. That $73 million project will provide 128 beds and create 194 jobs.
An $8 million gas line, more land compensation applications to the federal government, servicing more homes with water, and road work are also focuses for the next 12 months.
