Canadian Forces Base Trenton is always a busy place and 2023 will be no exception.
As we continue to tee up the coming year, Quinte News spoke with the Commander at 8 Wing, Colonel Lief Dahl.
Dahl says air support is always part of the mandate for CFB Trenton.
“I’ve been here for 13 years, we’ve never run out of work, that’s for sure. It comes down to what can and should be delivered by air and what cannot, and then the government looks at other options. We’re always providing some sort of support.”
He adds that although Europe could be the main focus, it will not be the only one.
“We’ve all read the news. The Prime Minister came back from a long trip across the globe, but hit Asia, which by the way was flown by an aircraft from 8 Wing and crews from 8 Wing. He was clear that the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Government is going to be more involved in Asia. I have no idea what that means in detail, but I wouldn’t be surprised if 8 Wing has a role to play there.”
CFB Trenton has members across the globe, including Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
