Bay of Quinte MP Ryan Williams says the cost of living has dominated the past 12 months.
We chatted with Williams in our annual reflection of the past year with Quinte News.
“Inflation is the biggest challenge we have. Inflation affects Canadians deeply, it affects their pay cheques, people in the grocery stores, everything’s gone up. We talked about it last year at the end of 2021. Gleaners Food Bank and the food banks as a whole have seen mass increases in uptake.”
He says all bills are actually a problem.
“Energy bills and bills that people have to pay. The price of everything has really gone up and it’s really something that’s affecting people, it’s affecting people this Christmas, it’s affecting people at food banks, even to the point where some people who are working 40 hour weeks, still have to use the food bank.”
He says getting excessive spending under control and stopping tax increases are pivotal to reigning in the cost of living increases.
Williams finished by stating that home ownership and the cost of a home also dominated the headlines.
He added that cost decreases for housing has to be central in our community. He says increasing the supply is critical.
Finally, the awarding of Queen’s Jubilee Medals was a highlight over the past year for the MP.
