2022 has just about wrapped up.
Quinte News has begun looking back at year that was.
We spoke with mayor of the County of Prince Edward Steve Ferguson.
Ferguson says it can be tough to sum up an entire year because some of the work began years prior.
“The new official plan which was adopted, it’s a crucial document. We undertook extensive reviews and revisions to update or replace 200 municipal by-laws and policies. We formed the affordable housing corporation.”
He says the municipality will acquire property with the goal of creating affordable housing in The County.
“Including, hopefully, Queen Elizabeth School in 2023. To that end we approved a Capital Facilities By-Law for tax incentives to create rental housing and we adopted flexible residential zoning in settlement areas. Established a program to support secondary units.”
The Environmental Advisory Committee, the Tourism Management Plan, the Family Health Team Physician Recruiter and the redevelopment of Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital were also some of the highlights of the past 12 months.
