As we turn our attention to 2023, Quinte News chatted with City of Belleville Mayor Neil Ellis.
He says one thing is his top priority for the next 12 months.
“Definitely doctor recruitment. As you are well aware, we are about 10,000 patients short on doctor recruitment. That is one of my main planks in the platform. Also keeping council moving forward. Infrastructure is one of the big things we have to work on. Past councils have been working on it, but hopefully we’re gonna go.”
Ellis says one of the challenges will be the purchasing power of the city. He says with the massive costs of goods increasing, they will have to prioritize projects.
“There’s only so many projects that can be done. One of the big ones we face is the waste water treatment plant. It’s going to be well over $100 million. We are going to need all three levels of government, but it’s something in the next five to ten years that has to be looked at.”
Ellis finished by saying that he looks forward to working with the returning members of council, those most recently elected and the staff at the city.
