2023 is now here.
As we look to the year to come, Quinte News chatted with dignitaries, local education representatives, and those in health care and politics.
Northumberland-Peterborough South MP Phillip Lawrence says people in his riding are telling him that their finances are going to be a major focus this year.
“The affordability crisis, food bank usage is at its highest rate ever. The other major issues of course housing, we have a dire housing shortage, rents continues to skyrocket, and interest payments go up. It will be more difficult to afford homes.”
“Economic growth. It appears as though we may be headed for at least a technical recession. It’s a really troubling state of the economy, where you have high inflation and low economic growth.”
He says his focus for constituents will be to make life more affordable in the riding and across the country.
