Belleville police responded to 220 calls for service over a 72-hour period from 5 a.m. on November 4, 2022 to 5 a.m. on November 7, 2022.
False robbery report
On November 1, 2022, a post was made to social media regarding a female who was robbed at knife point on College Street West between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. The post received considerable attention as people were concerned about the seemingly random attack. An officer attempted to review the incident as the poster stated the police had been contacted. Police were able to contact the female who claimed she was robbed. The female stated that a male had indicated he had a knife and took money and a credit card from her. She attended the Belleville Police Service on November4 to provide a statement regarding the events. During the interview, the female advised that the incident had been made up as she had lost the money which was owed for rent to the person who had made the social media post. The female was cautioned with public mischief and the investigation is complete.
Domestic assault
On November 5, 2022 at 2:10 a.m., police received a call to a Thurlow address regarding a domestic assault. A male reported that he struck his wife in the face. Police attended and arrested the 38-year-old Belleville man for assault causing bodily harm. The victim was transported to Belleville General Hospital for treatment of her injuries. The male was held for a bail hearing on November 5, 2022.
Impaired driving
On November 6, 2022 at 11:05 p.m., police were called to a single motor vehicle collision at Front Street and Victoria Avenue. When police arrived, they observed the vehicle to be abandoned. A short time later, the female driver returned to the vehicle, as she had locked herself out of it, so she retrieved a spare set of keys. The female, 57-year-old Sandra Mann, was arrested and charged with impaired driving and over 80mgs. She will appear in court on December 8, 2022.
