The Children’s Safety Village is bringing back Halloween in the Village this year.
It promises to be the safest Halloween tradition for young children.
Executive Director for the Children’s Safety Village, Bill Glisky, explained what makes the event safe.
“The entire village is fenced in,” Glisky tells Quinte News. “There’s three entry points, one of which will be locked into it which will be monitored. So we will be able to control everybody who comes in and out. There’s literally no vehicles on the roads for children to have to worry about once they get to the village.”
Sponsors, partners and friends of the village will be handing out treats.
Glisky says this will include some City of Belleville councillors, paramedics and police officers.
“The nice thing for a lot of people is you don’t have to walk six or seven blocks. It’s all in a fairly contained space of a handful of blocks. So, you know, you’re in, you trick or treat, you get 13 or 14 treats and you carry on.”
The event will face no pandemic restrictions for the first time since the start of the pandemic.
“(Before the pandemic) we had to have people register. They had to get a ticket so we could track how many people were coming in. We could only let so many kids in at a time because people had to be six feet apart.” Glisky says. “So you had both people at a gate letting people in then kids were going out the other gate. There wasn’t as much of an opportunity to simply enjoy the experience and have fun.”
Glisky says with out the restrictions, there could be as many as 400 to 500 kids taking part in the village on Monday.
While a lot of the decorations for the event are targeted toward kids aged two to four, Glisky says all ages are welcome to come.
“If you have a one-year-old that you want to bring in your stroller or on your chest, if you have a five- or six-year-old who wants to come with their little brother or sister or just on their own, we welcome kids of all ages,” Glisky said.
Halloween in the Village is located at the Safety Village on South John St. behind the former Belleville Police Station.
It will take place on Halloween from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
