With the start of their sixth season in the American Hockey League just days away, the Belleville Senators have put their team leadership in place.
Veteran defenceman Dillon Hetherington was named captain on Tuesday.
The 27-year-old Hetherington is in his second season with the B-Sens. Last season the Calgary native played 45 games with Belleville and nine with the NHL’s Ottawa Senators.
He signed a tw- year two-way contract with Ottawa during the off season. Hetherington become the fifth captain in B-Sens history.
He was a second round pick of the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets in 2013.
From Coach Troy Mann’s perspective Hetherington was an easy choice.
Belleville opens the new season Friday night in Laval before hosting the Rocket in their home opener Saturday night at the CAA Arena.
