The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks is assessing the east end of the City of Belleville following Sunday night’s fire at Station Street and Haig Road.
The fire involving styrofoam and building materials resulted in debris across the area with reports of some landing in the west end of the city.
About 150 homes in the area were evacuated.
The City of Belleville and Belleville Fire and Emergency Services provided an update Monday morning asking residents not to attempt to clear ashes unless absolutely necessary.
And to reduce the risk of run off, water should not be used to wash it away.
Testing was expected to be completed mid-morning with more updates to follow including information about the safe removal of the debris.

Belleville Fire and Emergency Services (BFES) would like to update Belleville residents in regard to the fire on Station Street last night. Many residents will have found ash debris on their property this morning and BFES is asking you to exercise patience as the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks is currently conducting an assessment within the area. Until this is completed, residents are asked not to attempt clearing the ashes unless it is crucial, as in clearing off a vehicle, and if so, to brush it lightly away. To reduce the risk of run off, please do not use water to wash it away.
During the night approximately 150 homes were evacuated, with several residents being relocated to the Quinte Sports & Wellness Centre. Individuals who were evacuated are asked to avoid the area until further notification. Testing is expected to be completed mid-morning and updates will follow once that is completed.
Further information will be provided in regard to the safe removal of the debris.
