The Survivors’ flag was raised at 8 Wing Trenton on Thursday.
The flag was raised during a ceremony commemorating the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Canada’s National Defence says the flag was developed through consultation and collaboration with Inuit, Mi’kmaq, Atikamekw, Cree, Ojibway, Dakota, Mohawk, Dene, Nuu-chah-nulth, Secwepemc, and Métis Nation Survivors.
Each element on the flag was selected by survivors.
Friday marks the second annual National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The day recognizes the tragic legacy of Residential Schools, the missing children, the families left behind, and the survivors of these institutions.
