Plans are in the works to regulate the sale of fireworks as well as fireworks or pyrotechnics displays in Belleville.
At Monday’s regular meeting, city council directed staff to prepare a by-law to amend the current one regulating fireworks.
The fire department is proposing that any business selling fireworks get a permit and that any business or organization planning a fireworks display also get a permit. The permit would cost just over $140.
As part of the permit process the fire department would inspect the business to see if it can sell fireworks safely and would also inspect the sites that would hold displays for safety issues.
